What are smart lights? Lighting for a connected home
You too can remotely control the lights in your home from your smartphone
What is smart lighting?
Controlled from one central network, smart lighting allows you to control your lights from your smartphone. Depending on the type of smart light you have, you can change the tone or colour of the bulb, dim the lights or turn multiple lights off at once.
Smart light bulbs come in all different fittings, including screw fit, bayonet and GU10 spotlights - so there’s a smart light available for every room in the house.
How does smart lighting work?
Smart lighting works by connecting to a central hub that connects to your internet. This links your lights and app together, letting you control your smart lights wherever and whenever from your smartphone.
With Hive Lights, simply open up the Hive app and turn the lights off, so you can relax in the knowledge that it looks like someone is at home when you are out. All with just a tap of a button via the Hive app. You can also use the Mimic mode to automatically turn lights on and off in a staggered pattern, for total control and reassurance.
What you need for a smart lighting system
All you need to set up Hive smart lighting is the Hive app, a Hive Hub or Hive Hub 360, and the Hive smart bulbs of your choice. We have also added Philips Hue support into the Hive app, so you can control Philips Hue lighting from the app, and even make lighting groups containing a mix of Hive bulbs and Philips Hue bulbs.
How much does a smart lighting system cost?
Getting started with a Hive lighting system certainly won’t break the bank – with a 5-pack of Hive dimmable bulbs and Hive Hub for £159. Individual bulbs can be added for as little as £19 each.
