How Hive Link works

Our smart plugs and sensors use pattern detection to get to know your loved one's routines and detect any changes. For example, on your Hive app you can see what time they pop the kettle on in the morning.

Check your loved one's home

To set up Hive Link in your loved one's home, there will need to be an existing broadband connection with a spare Ethernet port on the router.

Frequently asked questions

Here are answers to a few key questions that will help you have Hive Link up and running in no time.

Will it work in my loved one’s home?

To use Hive Link, your loved one needs a broadband connection with a spare Ethernet port available in their home, plus an extra power socket close to their broadband router for the Hive Hub. Your engineer will guide you every step of the way including where to place each Hive device.

The set up process should take no longer than 90 minutes. We recommend that both you and your loved one are there, to help you both get the most from the service.

We take our responsibility to safeguard customer data very seriously, and we have robust measures in place to keep data safe.

The only thing we ask of them is to give their consent for Hive Link to be set up in their home before installation takes place. Download the consent form.

Nobody knows British homes like British Gas and one of their trusted, expert engineers will install Hive Link in your loved one's home. There may be occasions where we also look to one of our certified partners to install Hive Link, but you'll still get the same custom personalisation.

You also don't need to be a current British Gas or Hive customer to use Hive Link.

Our service works on any iPhone or iPad running an up to date operating system of iOS 10 or above. Find out what operating system you have.

For Android you will need an operating system of 5.0 or above. To find out which Android OS is on your device, open your device's Settings. Tap About Phone or About Device. Then tap Android Version to display your version information.
