Why has Hive made this decision?

It’s not easy saying goodbye to products our customers love. But as a smart tech brand in the middle of a climate crisis, we know our focus needs to change.

At Hive, we’ve got big plans to make homes more energy efficient and cheaper to run. So we’ve made the tough decision to discontinue our cameras and smart security products – and develop smart home tech that’ll get us closer to Net Zero.

What is Hive doing to minimise the environmental impact of the product shutdown?

At Hive we do everything possible to stop our materials ending up in landfill. The recycled parts of Hive devices will be re-used as follows:

  • the packaging will be shredded for RDF (refuse derived fuel)

  • any recovered materials such as copper granulates and shredded PCB boards are traded on to be refined further

To do this, we partner with Recycling Lives, a charity that supports the homeless, reduces reoffending and delivers food to support small charities and community groups.
